Suicide Prevention
We offer a suite of programs that help create a network of safety across the lifespan.
ASIST - Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training is an in-depth training developed by LivingWorks that prepares individuals to provide suicide first-aid intervention using the evidence-based Pathway for Assisting Life (PAL) model. Backed by numerous peer reviewed studies and government reports, ASIST is recognized in SAMHSA’s and the Suicide Prevention Resource Center’s national registry of best practices. Although many professional caregivers use ASIST, anyone 16 or older can learn these life-saving skills. More information about ASIST can be found here: livingworks.net/asist.

SafeTALK - Suicide Alertness for Everyone is a half-day training that trains participants to become alert helpers who can recognize individuals with thoughts of suicide, engage them in direct and open talk about suicide, and quickly connect them with someone who can do a more in-depth suicide intervention, which may include an ASIST-trained caregiver. Oregon CALM - Counseling on Access to Lethal Means is a full-day training to assist health care and direct service providers in using Lethal Means Counseling with an informed, collaborative, and respectful approach. Neither anti-gun nor anti-medication, Oregon CALM seeks to build confidence in addressing these highly lethal means with clients at risk of suicide. Youth SAVE - Suicide Assessment in Virtual Environments was developed by the Oregon Pediatric Society to equip school-based and community-based mental health professionals with the tools to virtually assess for suicide, and to intervene with youth who have thoughts of suicide. The training includes 8 hours of synchronous learning (live via Zoom) and 2 hours of asynchronous learning (pre-recorded webinars), all delivered virtually. QPR - Question, Persuade, Refer is a gatekeeper skills training developed by the QPR Institute. A widely-used universal prevention strategy, QPR is recognized in SAMHSA’s and the Suicide Prevention Resource Center’s national registry of best practices. If you are coordinating a training for a group or organization, Incite Agency for Change will work with you to tailor the program for your specific audience (e.g. youth, student organizations, professional staff, emergency responders, and more). We can incorporate relevant policies and protocols, will collaborate to create scenarios specific to your context, and can tailor the length of the program depending on your needs and availability.

LivingWorks Start is an interactive online course that teaches individuals to recognize when someone has thoughts of suicide and take effective action to connect them with help. Incite Agency for Change has established an affiliate partnership with LivingWorks because while it may be difficult to get to an in-person training during COVID times, we think it’s more important than ever for as many people as possible to have these life-saving skills! No formal training or suicide prevention experience is required, but the in-depth customization of the course supports learners across a range of experience levels.
